Why brain health matters
‘Brain health’ is about making the most of your brain and helping to reduce some of the risks to its health as you age. Based on the growing body of evidence, each of us needs to act early to prioritize our brain health.
All stakeholders should work together with the common goal of improved health for people with progressive neurodegenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD).
- Think Brain Health calls on policymakers, public health bodies and others to educate the general public about the progressive nature of neurodegenerative brain diseases.
- The Think Brain Health recommendations aim to help those tasked with organizing health services to decide how best to prepare for national programmes that facilitate earlier detection and intervention of neurodegenerative brain diseases.
These actions need to be widely accessible and engage everybody, including individuals in hard to reach groups. Progressive brain diseases are becoming increasingly widespread as people live longer, so we need to act early.
